This was a custom order for sweet little Lydia! My girlfriend had her first baby-a girl! She wanted something inspired by nature, something to love for a long time, and get this, she waited to find out the sex of the baby! How could she wait?! I wanted to know! This was the compromise, we decided on neutral, but fun colors on the main shade; I hand painted a yellow and white fun plaid pattern on the front and back, and green-ish with a little blue-ish polka dots on each side! Since we wanted a nature theme, I grabbed some fabulous branches in the backyard and painted them white! I decided to attach them to one side of the shade, OH YES I DID!! Sometimes, I just have to go the extra step, and push the idea a little further, so it only made sense to attach the branches to one side and have it extend! As part of our compromise, and me having to add the “special” touches, we waited until the baby was born until I was able to add either the pinks and feminine touches, or the blues and reds with some boy edge! I made an “L” monogram charm with vintage trim and a map of Paris behind it! The owls were hand made and purchased on Etsy! A special lamp for my special friend and her sweet baby girl-Lydia!
This is a new offering! I call these hey shades, “cut it out!” I took a shade, cut out the top existing fabric in a harlequin pattern, then added my burlap garland, added amazing upholstery nail heads, and finished it off with iridescent ribbon on the top and bottom! I love the “new” shade on top of the vintage base! The wooden finial compliments all the different textures used, yet stands out on it’s own as a unique piece!
I love nothing more than Vintage touches of Christmas cheer! Vintage sheet music as our foundation, each shade was a little different. Lace trim, classic pom-pom trim, and YES, Vintage ornaments–so beautiful! These looked absolutely fantastic on my clients chandelier! The light sparkled on each, and they screamed festive fun!
This fabric was one of Kristen’s favorites, so that’s an easy fix, we must incorporate it into the design! I carefully cut each nesting doll out along with the horses. I always have to add something personal, so I decided to do different initial tags of Kristen’s three children! They hang down from the turn switch. A fun colorful feather on top with a silk flower burst and of course an earring here and there as extra detail! This lamp stays near the sewing machine which creates the perfect ambient lighting! An inspirational piece in her inspirational space! So important!
I had so much fun creating this shade for a friend of mine! Kristen is the owner of Gock’s Frocks, an amazing line of children’s clothing! She sews and sells her creations! This shade is hand painted with fun pink harlequins, some fabric from Kristen’s own collection of favorite fabrics, and her own trim she uses inside clothing as tags. White buttons, fabulous ribbon, an earring and my favorite white tutu trim for the bottom! This sweet and cheerful lamp greets you as you enter the studio! Thanks Gock’s!
