Ikat has been around for quite some time. I love small doses of it on pillows, accent chairs and if you want some graphic, bold drapes, try adding to any window! I love contrast! Light against dark and dark against light! Contrast helps your eyes move around a space and appreciate the different tones. As long as there is contrast in color, textures and various heights in any space, I’m happy!
My grandmother passed away one year ago and for as long as I could remember, she had an amazing pair of angel lamps in her bedroom! I was so happy to hear that I can now have them to enjoy and cherish forever! Marie, aka, Maggie, aka…great grandma, aka GREATS! Since grandma was a “great” grandma, we all started calling her “Greats!” When she passed away in November, Christmas was just around the corner. I knew I had to take Greats’ lamps and do something fun and funky to enjoy them for the holiday season! This was simple, and anyone can do this for a “quick” fix! The shades were in really good shape, so I added burlap garland, my first layer! I love some rustic elements! Second layer consisted of white tulle ribbon with vintage ornaments tied together for a beautiful, colorful vintage Christmas!
I had the opportunity to go to Scott’s Antique Market while I was in Atlanta for the 2012 home and gift market! This was one of the most exciting days of my life! As I approached closer and closer to the front entrance, I smelled boiled peanuts! I was starving, as usual, and grabbed a bag for $5! Have you ever tried these before?! They are amazing! As I popped as many as I could in my mouth, because, after all, I was about to enter an amazing world of vintage, and new, clever, and fabulous shopping opportunities right in front of me…and I needed all the protein I could get! I walked in, and felt like a child in a candy store! Oh my goodness, go to the right? Or maybe I should go left! Well, I made it through the whole place! I met some amazing people and saw some amazing things! I’m a complete lover of vintage items, both classic and fun, and I sure saw a lot of that! Some new items such as pillows, furniture, and art blew my mind-so beautiful! I made some great connections, and hope to get in touch with some of the talented vendors I met! Oh, and the chicken salad for lunch was the best ever!!
I’m now doing “design” parties! These can either be in home, or in the office for a special occasion! I started offering design seminars Decor, Drinks, and Delicacies, in my studio July 11, 2011! I wanted to continue celebrating women and our want of creating a beautiful, high end looking, chic and comfortable home! This has been an amazing new adventure for me and I’m looking forward to planning the next series of Decor, Drinks and Delicacies! Classes will begin again late Spring 2012! Book your fun, info-taining Shades of Ooh and Ah party! Do you have your own topic you would like me to build on? Or a fun over the top table scape demonstration you would like to see? How about your bookshelves?! These are a few of my favorite things!
As a designer, you provide the client with solutions and ideas for a given space. For Flight wine bar, a very small, cozy space, it was very important to offer as much seating as possible without upsetting the fire marshal! I had to come up with seating options that were functional, easy to move around, looked good, fit in, and yes, still provide enough room for traffic flow! This seating arrangement you see is in the “living room” area we like to call it! The coffee table is made of reclaimed wood on top of a steel base, such a great piece! Substantial in weight, not in taking up too much space!
The custom wine refrigeration system was built into the same wall of the shelving and storage! Again, what a great focal point for all to see as soon as you walk into Flight! Having the Flight logo added to each front, adds the extra special touch of custom detail! This beautiful and bold refrigeration feature provides a perfect, fresh pour every time!
